Hotel Key Cards Compatible With Saflok
Saflok Quantum, Confidant RFID, MT/RT & System 6000 hotel locks.
The direct answer
Yes — American Hotel Cards supplies RFID key cards compatible with Saflok Quantum and Confidant RFID locks. They use encrypted MIFARE DESFire chips on the 13.56 MHz ISO/IEC 14443-A standard, in CR80 format, custom-printed and shipped blank for your front desk to encode through System 6000 / Messenger LENS. Older Saflok MT and RT doors were magnetic-stripe, and we supply magstripe and combo cards for those.
Overview
How Saflok reads a key card
Saflok is dormakaba’s hotel locking line and, alongside VingCard, one of the most common systems on American guest-room doors. The current RFID platforms — Saflok Quantum and Saflok Confidant RFID — read contactless 13.56 MHz credentials and use encrypted MIFARE DESFire, networked through dormakaba’s System 6000 software with the Messenger LENS wireless layer. Cards we supply for these locks are standard CR80 RFID cards built around a DESFire inlay.
The older Saflok MT and RT generations were magnetic-stripe locks, and plenty of properties still run them. If your doors take a swipe, you are on a magstripe Saflok and we supply HiCo magnetic-stripe cards — or, for a property mid-retrofit, combo cards carrying both a magstripe and an RFID inlay so one card works on old and new doors through the changeover.
Because Saflok RFID credentials are encrypted DESFire, they are written exclusively by your own System 6000 encoder at the front desk. We provide the blank or custom-printed card; your system programs the room, dates and access rights. That encryption is also why a Saflok card cannot be cloned, and why the only correct workflow — the one we follow — is to supply compatible stock for your system to encode, never to copy a live card.

How encoding works
Saflok RFID credentials are encrypted MIFARE DESFire, written by your own dormakaba System 6000 encoder — never by us. We deliver the blank or custom-printed DESFire card; your front desk programs the room, dates and access at check-in. The encryption means the credential cannot be cloned, so the secure and only correct path is on-site encoding on your own system. We supply compatible card stock; we do not duplicate active guest cards.
What we make for Saflok
We supply cards compatible with Saflok Quantum and Saflok Confidant RFID (encrypted 13.56 MHz MIFARE DESFire, encoded on System 6000 / Messenger LENS), plus magnetic-stripe and RFID+magstripe combo cards for legacy Saflok MT and RT doors. Send us your lock model or a sample card and we will confirm the exact chip and generation before you order.
Ordering tips
- If your front desk swipes the card, you are on legacy Saflok MT/RT magstripe — ask about combo cards before a retrofit.
- Saflok RFID is DESFire (encrypted), not MIFARE Classic — be sure a quote specifies DESFire so the inlay matches your System 6000.

Saflok compatibility, answered
What key cards work with Saflok locks?
Saflok RFID locks — Quantum and Confidant RFID — read 13.56 MHz encrypted MIFARE DESFire cards, encoded through dormakaba System 6000. American Hotel Cards supplies exactly those in CR80 format, custom-printed and shipped blank for your front desk to encode. Older Saflok MT and RT doors are magnetic-stripe, and we supply magstripe or combo cards for those instead.
Can you copy or duplicate our existing Saflok cards?
No. Saflok RFID credentials are encrypted DESFire and cannot be cloned — that is a security feature, not a limitation. We supply compatible blank or custom-printed DESFire cards that your own System 6000 encoder programs with each guest’s details. We never copy a live guest card.
What chip and technology does Saflok use?
Current Saflok RFID locks (Quantum, Confidant RFID) use encrypted MIFARE DESFire EV1/EV2/EV3 at 13.56 MHz on ISO/IEC 14443-A, networked via System 6000 and the Messenger LENS wireless layer. Older Saflok MT/RT locks used a magnetic stripe. We match the card to your generation.
Can you print our branding on Saflok-compatible cards?
Yes. Saflok-compatible cards are fully custom — full-bleed CMYK, Pantone matching, metallic foil, spot UV, signature panels and sequential numbering. The print is a surface finish over the DESFire inlay and does not affect how the lock reads or encodes the card.
What is the minimum order for Saflok-compatible cards?
Minimums start at 500 cards, with most custom orders shipping in about 2–3 weeks after artwork approval. Reorders and plain stock are typically faster — share your reorder cadence and we will keep stock moving ahead of your needs.
Are these affected by the 2024 "Unsaflok" disclosure?
No. The 2024 Unsaflok research concerned lock firmware and key-derivation, not the blank card stock — dormakaba issued a firmware fix, and your card supplier is not the variable. We supply compatible DESFire stock your own System 6000 encodes; keeping your lock firmware current is the security step that matters there.
