How SALTO Systems reads a key card
SALTO Systems builds electronic access control widely used in design-led and independent hotels. Its hospitality platforms — the SALTO XS4 lock range, the ProAccess SPACE on-premise management software and the cloud-based SALTO KS (Keys as a Service) — read contactless 13.56 MHz credentials and, critically, use encrypted MIFARE DESFire. That encryption is a defining feature: a SALTO credential is cryptographically bound to your installation and cannot be duplicated by anyone, including us.
Because of that, the SALTO workflow is blanks-only. We supply compatible DESFire blank cards — plain or fully custom-printed to your brand — in standard CR80 format, and your property writes each guest credential on its own SALTO encoder through ProAccess SPACE or SALTO KS. SALTO’s system also uses SVN (data-on-card), where the card itself can carry updated access data between the encoder and offline locks, all encrypted end to end.

How encoding works
SALTO credentials are encrypted MIFARE DESFire and are written only by your own SALTO encoder through ProAccess SPACE or SALTO KS — they cannot be programmed or cloned by a card supplier. We therefore supply compatible DESFire blanks (plain or custom-printed); your property encodes each guest card on-site. This is the correct and most secure workflow, and it keeps every encryption key on your side. We never handle a live SALTO credential.
